Henry County Sheriffs Office – Sheriffs Comments

Sheriff Monte Belew brings over twenty years of law enforcement experience to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office. He began his career with the Henry County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Tom Jenkins as a jailer / dispatcher. After graduating from the University of Tennessee Martin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, he was hired as a patrolman for the Jackson, Tennessee Police Department.

After serving three years at the Jackson Police Department, Sheriff Belew was then hired by the Tennessee Highway Patrol. After completing their six-month training academy, Sheriff Belew was stationed in Jackson, Tennessee. Eventually he was allowed to transfer to Henry County Patrol and worked part time with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency as a boating officer, patrolling and enforcing laws on Kentucky Lake. Sheriff Belew graduated from the FBI National Academy in 2011 and also was a graduate of the National Sheriff’s Association Executive Leadership Academy.

Sheriff Belew with SiAfter his election to the office of Sheriff, Belew implemented many new programs. He is especially proud of the Metro Crime Unit; the School Resource Officers; the jail inmate gardens; the GED programs and the jail ministry; drug drop-box program; the NRA Eddie Eagle Program; the 911 sign program; and the deer processing program “Deputies for the Hungry”.

Sheriff Belew is a board member for PLUS Endowment; Fair Board; Jaycees; 911 Board; NWTF; Hunter Safety Instructor; vice-chair of the Carl Perkins Prevention of Child Abuse; co-chair of the Henry County Drug Free Coalition.

Sheriff Belew also handles one of the canine units, “Si”. Si is active in many community events and school functions.
