Watkins said these grants were made possible by the Tennessee Dept of Environment and Conservation Solid Waste Assistance and the State Used Oil Assistance Program.Watkins adds one check for $47,950 will go toward the purchase of a new electric forklift for Recycling Center operations and the other check for $28,000 will go toward the purchase of new equipment for collection and processing used motor oil to be burned in the Recycling Center’s used oil heaters during winter months. Mayor Greer stated, “Henry County is very pleased to get these two grant awards! Our Recycling Program is very important to our community and these two grants will go a long way to provide new equipment to keep our program strong.”
Ms. Fuzzell attended the Monday afternoon meeting of the Solid Waste Regional Board where she presented the county’s Annual Progress Report. Henry County achieved a 42% diversion rate because of the great recycling efforts of county recycling program and local businesses and industry. This is above the required 25% required by state law.
