From WENK/WTPR Radio- Paris, Tenn.—You may have begun seeing signs stating “No Phone Zone” in Henry County. They are being installed by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office in school zones throughout the county to make the public aware of the new law effective January 1, making it now illegal to talk on a cell phone (in addition to texting while driving) while in a school zone. Sheriff Monte Belew said, “Law enforcement will be enforcing this new law in an effort to prevent an accident before it happens. We are taking a proactive approach and have placed “No Phone Zone” signs up in school zones as to make everyone aware. Driving while being distracted by a phone is extremely dangerous in and of itself. When children are present in a school zone the danger only multiplies.” In photo, Sheriff Monte Belew, right, and Chief Deputy Damon Lowe install a sign along Volunteer Drive near Paris Elementary School.
